Mid-Atlantic Seafood: The Epitome of Fresh

Last week, we had the pleasure of dining at Mid-Atlantic Seafood in Laurel, MD, and we had a truly awesome experience.  If you love seafood as much as we do (or just good food in general aka everyone, ha), you’re going to want to head on over stat because the taste and price are seriously out of this world.  Their restaurant’s easy to overlook because of their unassuming location, but don’t be fooled, their food is second to none.  They source ingredients locally so you know damn sure that you’re getting the freshest seafood, meat and produce possible.

So, here’s how the Mid-Atlantic Seafood experience works.  You enter their restaurant, stand in line, place your order and then wait for your number to be called so you can get your grub.  It takes a while because 95% of their food’s made to order, but trust us when we say it’s worth the wait.  The aforementioned 5% is pre-made and you can see it while waiting in line.  If you’re really in a rush, just get those noms to go.  Honestly, you really can’t go wrong either way!  The restaurant itself is the epitome of clean.  The vibe’s almost cafeteria/fast-food like, but we don’t mean that in a negative way – think of it as a 5-star hole-in-the-wall establishment with impeccable service.

We started our dinner off with an alcoholic blueberry lemonade and classic margarita.  Both drinks came with copious amounts of fresh fruit and were presented in THE cutest “glasses.”  The owners of Mid-Atlantic Seafood also own a liquor store, and it just so happens to conveniently be located next door.  Brian, the manager, wanted to do something unique with presentation so he decided to serve drinks in mini-liquor bottles.  FYI, customers have the option of taking them home with them afterwards.

Their menu was extensive so there was a lot to choose from, but we decided to go with the following:  stuffed shrimp (3 for $9.99 and 5 for $12.99), their signature fish fillet sandwich ($5.99, add $1 for fries and $2 for sweet potato fries), grilled shrimp & scallops over rice ($12.99), steamed jumbo spiced shrimp ($7.99/1/2 lb, $12.99/1lb, $22.99/2lbs), and steamed Alaskan snow crab legs ($14.99/1lb).

Their shrimp was stuffed with jumbo lump crabmeat, and it came with two sides.  They had an abundance of delicious options available, but we decided to try their candied yams and collard greens this time around.  Everything was perfection, and we’re not exaggerating in the least.  Their frying skills are seriously goals – yay for crispy goodness – and they don’t skimp on crab.

Next up, their steamed shrimp and snow crab generously coated in Old Bay.  You seriously won’t find fresher seafood anywhere!

Now let’s take a look at their signature fish sandwich.  We got ours with flounder, but catfish was also an option. It came with lettuce, tomatoes, fried sweet onions (!!!!!), cheese, and tartar sauce and was hands down, THE best fish sandwich we had ever tasted.  The onions were a definite game-changer.  The fries, on the other hand, were just normal fries, but they came dusted with old bay, which was a nice touch.

Last but not least, their grilled shrimp and scallops served over steamed white rice.  If you’re a fan of asian flavors, you’ll definitely enjoy this plate.  This was our least favorite dish of the bunch, but that doesn’t really mean anything because we still enjoyed it immensely.  See what we mean about the food here being bomb? For $12.99, you’re getting a ridiculous amount of fresh, delicious food.  Honestly, you can’t go wrong with ANYTHING we’ve featured here today, and we can pretty much guarantee that you’ll love Mid-Atlantic Seafood.

In addition to their location in Laurel, they have restaurants in Takoma Park, New Carrollton, and Hyattsville so definitely go and let us know how you like their food.  For those of you interested, they currently have a cool lunch promo going on:  buy a lunch platter and get a free drink anytime from 10AM to 2PM.  They also have exciting new menu items so make sure to give them a try!  We’re definitely looking forward to trying their jumbo lump crab quesadilla and their homemade cream of crab soup.  Happy eating, nomsters!
