The Best of Maryland: 10 Dishes You Need To Try in Charm City

Planning a trip to Baltimore, Maryland?  Then this post is an absolute must-read.  We’ve compiled a list of our favorite eats in Charm City, and we can’t wait to give you the 411.  Make sure to bookmark this post and give it a share if you think a foodie in your life will appreciate this as much as you do.

1.  Pitango Bakery & Cafe’s Cruffin

We can’t even begin to tell you guys how much we love Pitango Fells Point.  Their cruffin is seriously one of the best pastries we’ve ever had, and their almond croissant is just as good.

It was really tough choosing between the two, but luckily you guys don’t have to.  Go get one of each, then come back and thank us!  While you’re there, get a Red sandwich.  Prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and avocado on tomato focaccia? Um, we think yes.  So. much. yes.

2.  Ekiben’s Neighborhood Bird

Can you think of anything sexier than Taiwanese curry fried chicken?  The answer is yes, Taiwanese curry fried chicken served on a fluffy steamed bun.  Topped with spicy sambal mayo, pickles and fresh herbs, this epic sandwich will give you a mouthgasm unlike any other.

Come hungry because this baby’s almost as big as a small child’s head.  Since you’re splurging, make sure you get an order of their tempura broccoli with Chinese sausage…and go back to try their rice bowls…dammit, just try their entire menu.

3.  Sacré Sucré Macarons

This pastry studio is just too good. Located in Fells Point, Dane Thibodeaux and Manuel Sánchez are dessert wizards whose sweets are almost too beautiful to eat, like we low key feel bad devouring their edible art.  They’re known for macarons, but their eclairs are our favorites as well.  You honestly can’t go wrong with anything here so go and get whatever your heart desires.

4.  Jimmy’s Famous Seafood’s Crab Cakes

When you ask Baltimoreans about the best crab cake in Maryland, you’re gonna get a slew of answers.  Although we can think of quite a few places that have solid crab cakes, our forever favorite is Jimmy’s.  If you’re in the area, you need to try ’em.  Get two, get them broiled and enjoy the nomtastic goodness that’s 99% crab and 1% filler.

5.  Cocina Luchadores’ Tacos

Everyone and their mom hypes Clavel, and although they have ridiculously delish food, our favorite taco place in Charm City is Cocina Luchadores.  This vibrant hole-in-the-wall establishment has a ton of personality, and the food is to die for.  Get the pollo, al pastor, carnitas and nopales, and enjoy with Rosalyn’s red and green salsas.

6.  Duck Duck Goose’s Foie Gras Burger

Holy decadence, this burger is rich.  You’re either gonna hate it or love it so consider this your non-verbal disclaimer.  Imagine a perfectly cooked patty that’s topped with foie and reduced cherries,  served on a buttery brioche bun that’s slathered with spicy mayo.

…you guys haven’t tried this yet, and we know you already have thoughts.  Don’t expect to finish this on your own though – it was too rich even for us, and we loved all the different flavors.  Go with a friend and share because sharing is caring.  They also do a mean brunch so definitely add that to your list.

7.  Blue Moon Cafe’s Captain Crunch French Toast

‘Nuff said, Nomsters.  Topped with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, sliced apples & bananas, and an obscene amount of whipped cream, Blue Moon Cafe’s french toast is nothing short of legendary.  The bread has a really great crunch to it, and it’s a dream come true for those of you with a sweet tooth.

Since you’re splurging anyways, why not go all out?  Another must try here is their cinnamon roll, and it’s everything good in life baked into a gooey, sticky and oh so scrumptious block of nom.  We can pretty much guarantee it’ll be love at first bite so you’re welcome.

8.  La Calle’s Flan

la calle flan

This flan is, hands down, one of the best desserts in Baltimore.  We’ve said this before, and we’ll say it again, but you could hate flan and still love this because it’s that good.  We don’t know what ingredients they use, but the texture is to die for, and it’s just the right amount of sweet!  This alone is worth the trip to La Calle, but their queso con chorizo, chicken mole, and tacos are also yummy.

9.  Noona’s Bambino Pizza

Everything at Noona’s is gold, like you could randomly point to anything on their menu, and expect an incredible meal.  Whether you want to indulge in their house made pasta or enjoy an artisanal sourdough pie, you’ll leave completely and utterly satisfied.  The bambino, topped with red onion, fennel sausage, fermented peppers, ricotta, and hot honey, is our personal favorite, but their napoli’s delicious as well.  You of course have the option of building your own so go wild, friends.

10.  Waffie’s Strawberry Cheesecake Waffle

There’s a reason why Waffie made Yelp’s “top 100 places to eat in the USA.”  With everything from savory to sweet, their waffles are perfect for any and every occasion.  Located in Hampden, you can choose from a number of pre-formed combos or build your own glorious creation.

They have all kinds of toppings and drizzles available so you’ll feel like a kid in a candy store.  Plus, they source their ice cream locally from none than Taharka Brothers so its a win-win all around.  Their strawberry cheesecake is made with their signature waffle, then topped with cheesecake ice cream, maple whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs and strawberry drizzle.  And yes, it’s as good as it sounds.
