Description
These air fryer rice paper ham and cheese puffs wrap string cheese, honey ham, and chives in a double layer of rice paper, then air fry until the shell is crispy and shattering with gooey cheese inside.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 sheets rice paper
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 4 sticks mozzarella string cheese, halved
- 4 slices honey ham, thinly sliced
- 2 tsp chives, chopped
- vegetable oil, for brushing
- 1 tsp black sesame seeds
- 1 tsp white sesame seeds
- sweet chili sauce, for dipping
- Equipment
- air fryer
- basting brush
- cutting board
Instructions
- Prep. Beat the eggs in a wide, shallow bowl and cut the string cheese sticks in half.
- Wrap. Dip a sheet of rice paper in the egg until fully coated and lay it flat. Add two string cheese halves, a folded slice of honey ham, and a sprinkle of chives in the center, then fold in the sides to enclose. Dip a second sheet in the egg and wrap it around the outside as a second layer. Repeat to make all 4 puffs.
- Season. Brush each puff lightly with vegetable oil and sprinkle with the black and white sesame seeds.
- Air fry. Air fry at 350F for 8 to 10 minutes, until crispy and golden.
- Serve. Serve hot with sweet chili sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Work with one rice paper sheet at a time; it turns sticky and hard to handle fast once dipped in egg.
- Do not oversoak the rice paper; a quick full dip is enough to make it pliable.
- Seal the seams well so the cheese does not leak out while air frying.
- Press the sesame seeds on after oiling so they actually stick.
- Serve right away while the shell is crisp and the cheese is molten.
