Where to get Amazing Pastries in Alexandria, Virginia

Located right on the Avenue in Del Ray, Junction Bakery is an adorable spot with incredible pastries and brunch dishes that will leave you completely and utterly satisfied.  The space is warm and inviting, flooded with light from their giant windows, and it’s the perfect spot to grab lunch with your friends or enjoy a cup of coffee to start the day off right.

We don’t travel to Alexandria often due to traffic, but their food’s totally worth the drive.  They’re known for their pastries, but everything they makes is gold!  Start your day off right with a cup of joe and a pastry…or five.

We highly recommend their everything croissant, valrhona dark chocolate croissant, and monkey bread.  We got to try a few of their desserts as well, and they were, unsurprisingly, outstanding – standouts included their butterscotch eclair and quadruple chocolate cookies.

Their croissants are the epitome of flaky, buttery perfection – just look at how gorgeous this cross section is.  It’s tough to get anything other than their baked goods because they’re THAT outstanding, but the food is quite tasty as well.

Served on a thick slice of whole wheat bread, the California is topped with avocado puree, roasted mushrooms, snap peas and toasted hazelnuts.  It’s an unlikely combo of flavors, but they all work together really well!  If you’re in the mood for something healthy but delicious, definitely give this toast a try.

If you want to splurge a bit, go for the Country.  It’s a made-from-scratch cheddar-chive biscuit with breakfast sausage, scrambled eggs, and cheddar cheese, and it’s 100% worth the calories.  Plus, it’s served with a side of fruit so that balances it all out…at least that’s what we tell ourselves.

And last but not least, their Cubano:  mojo roasted pork shoulder, sliced roasted herb ham, gruyere cheese, dijon mustard, house pickles, and cilantro-lime mayo on a hoagie roll.   The photo just doesn’t do it justice – it was, hands down, one of the best Cubanos we’ve ever had, and yes, we know that’s a huge compliment.  If you’re in the area, and you’re craving a bamf sandwich, you know where to go!
