Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 3 tbsp Unsalted Butter
- 10 oz Mini Marshmallows (about 1 bag)
- 1/4 cup Black Sesame Seeds, toasted and ground
- 5 cups Rice Krispies
- 1 cup Japanese rice crackers (like kaki no tane)
Equipment
Instructions
- Grind the sesame. Pulse the toasted black sesame seeds in a food processor until they form a fine powder.
- Melt the butter over low heat in a large pot.
- Add the marshmallows and stir occasionally until completely melted.
- Stir in the sesame. Off the heat, mix in the ground black sesame until evenly colored.
- Fold in the cereal. Add the Rice Krispies and Japanese rice crackers and gently fold to coat.
- Press into a pan. Spread into a parchment-lined baking pan and press flat with buttered hands.
- Cool and cut. Let set, then lift out, cut into squares, and serve.
Notes
- Grind the black sesame fine so the flavor and gray color spread evenly.
- Pull the marshmallows off the heat the second they melt to keep the treats soft.
- Fold rice crackers in gently so they stay crunchy instead of turning to dust.
- Press the mixture just until even; packing hard makes tough treats.
- Store airtight up to 3 days, or freeze wrapped squares up to 6 weeks.
