Description
Crispy cinnamon toast sticks made by frying leftover bread crusts and tossing them in cinnamon sugar. A four-ingredient, churro-style snack ready in about five minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 leftover white bread crusts
- 1 cup vegetable oil, for frying
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Equipment
Instructions
- Heat the oil. Warm the vegetable oil in a small pot until it reaches 350F.
- Fry the crusts. Drop the bread crusts in and fry until they darken, usually 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Drain and crisp. Move them to a paper towel and let them crisp up for a minute or two.
- Coat. Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a bowl and toss the warm sticks until fully covered.
- Serve. Eat right away while warm and crunchy.
Notes
- Get the oil to 350F before frying so the sticks crisp instead of soaking up oil.
- Pull the crusts a touch early; they keep crisping as they cool.
- Toss in the cinnamon sugar while hot so it sticks.
- Adjust the cinnamon-to-sugar ratio to taste; 1 tsp cinnamon to 3 tbsp sugar is a good start.
