Looking for a new brunch spot in Shaw? We gotchu fam. Although we’ve heard incredible things about Convivial, we haven’t had a chance to check them out…until now. We recently got a bunch of dishes to go for brunch, and we were so happy with their food.
We kicked things off on a sweet note with one of their famous cinnamon buns. Imagine soft, gooey goodness that’s just the right amount of sweet. It was fluffy and magical so suffice it to say, it’s a must try.
For entrees, we split 3 dishes between the two of us – because we’re fatties and proud of it – and everything was delicious. We got an order of their pancakes, their fried chicken sandwich, and their croque monsieur. We were a little worried that the sammies wouldn’t travel well, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The chicken managed to stay nice and crisp even after a 40 minute car ride.
Served with coleslaw and a generous side of fries, this sandwich was dressed with pickles and ranch. They give you the option of adding cheese, bacon or an egg at a small added cost, but we wanted to keep things simple so we passed. The chicken was cooked beautifully – think crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside – and it was just a really solid sandwich overall.
If we had to pick favorites between the aforementioned dishes, we’d say the pancakes reigned supreme. They were so ridiculously good. The texture was almost cakelike, which we personally loved. So if you’re craving something sweet for your entree, definitely make sure to give this a try.
Whether you join them for patio dining or get this dish to go, we guarantee it’ll be a hit with even the pickiest of eaters. They packed all the toppings separately – because who wants soggy flapjacks – and it came with whipped maple creme fraiche, speculoos crumble and mixed berry compote. So. Much. Yum.
And as we always say, no meal is complete without dessert, especially when a restaurant does it so well. We got to try their key lime pie and olive oil & Virginia peach shortcake, and both were exquisite so expect to be impressed.
The former was firm yet creamy and came on a scrumptious speculoos cookie crust. It was garnished with thin kiwi slices and was nothing short of amazing. The latter’s basically summer in dessert form. Served with a light vanilla rhubarb pastry cream, it’s a lovely way to end brunch.
