Description

Transform instant ramen into a rich, comforting bowl with just one ingredient: Japanese curry cubes. This 5-minute curry ramen hack creates a thick, velvety broth that coats every noodle perfectly.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 package Shin Ramyun (or any instant ramen)
  • 2 cups water (or amount specified on ramen package)
  • 1 cube Golden Curry (medium spice)
  • Chopped green onions (optional, for topping)

Equipment

Instructions

  1. Boil the water: Bring water to a rolling boil in a small pot over high heat.
  2. Break up the curry cube: While water heats, break the Golden Curry cube into smaller pieces for faster dissolving.
  3. Add the curry: Once water is boiling, add the broken curry pieces and stir until completely dissolved, about 1 minute.
  4. Cook the noodles: Add the ramen noodles (do NOT add the seasoning packet) and cook according to package directions, usually 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Serve immediately: Transfer to a bowl and top with chopped green onions if desired. Enjoy while hot!

Notes

  • Save or discard the ramen seasoning packet – the curry cube provides all the flavor needed and using both makes it way too salty.
  • S&B curry blocks work just as well as Golden Curry. Choose mild, medium, or hot based on your spice preference.
  • Don’t reduce the water amount even though you want thick broth – the curry naturally thickens it and you need enough liquid for proper dissolving.
  • Breaking the curry cube into smaller pieces before adding helps it dissolve faster and more evenly.
  • This works with any instant ramen brand, but chewier noodles like Shin Ramyun hold up best with the thick curry sauce.
  • Add soft boiled eggs, sautéed vegetables, or leftover protein to make it more substantial.
