These Fruity Pebbles Rice Krispies Treats are one of my favorite ways to level up the classic, and all it takes is one extra cup of cereal. You melt butter and marshmallows into regular Rice Krispies like always, then fold in a cup of Fruity Pebbles so the whole batch turns soft, chewy, and speckled with color. Maybe it’s the Japanese in me, but I’ve never been into super over-the-top flavors, and this is such an easy way to add a subtle fruity upgrade without going overboard. The piped marshmallow creme on top is the finishing touch that sends them over the edge.

What Makes These Fruity Pebbles Rice Krispies Treats So Good
It is all about texture and a little pop of fruity flavor. You still get that buttery, chewy marshmallow base, but the Fruity Pebbles add tiny crunchy bits and a light citrusy sweetness that keeps every bite interesting. The marshmallow creme on top makes them feel a little extra without much effort at all.
I’ve had SO much fun turning the basic treat into different versions over the years. If you like an upgrade with a bolder twist, my ube Oreo rice krispie treats take the same classic base and give it a Filipino spin with ube extract and crushed Oreos. That one was actually my first post to ever go viral, so you know it slaps.

Can I use Fruity Pebbles to make rice crispy treats?
Yes, Fruity Pebbles make excellent rice crispy treats. You don’t swap out the Rice Krispies entirely, though. The trick is to keep the Rice Krispies as the sturdy base and mix in about one cup of Fruity Pebbles for color and fruity flavor, so the treats still hold together and slice cleanly. This mix-in approach works with pretty much any sweet cereal, so Reese’s Puffs, Cocoa Pebbles, and Fruit Loops are all fair game. If you would rather build the flavor into the marshmallow itself, my pandan rice krispie treats use pandan powder and a white chocolate dip for a totally different, aromatic take.

Tips for Making Fruity Pebbles Rice Krispies Treats
Melt the marshmallows low and slow
Keep the heat at medium-low and stir the marshmallows into the melted butter until they’re just smooth. Blasting them on high makes the treats hard once they set, so patience here is what keeps them soft and chewy. The Kitchn has a great breakdown of why a little extra marshmallow and gentle heat make a better treat.
Layer the cereal so it mixes evenly
Turn off the heat, then add 3 cups of Rice Krispies, the cup of Fruity Pebbles, and the last 2 cups of Rice Krispies in that order. Layering the cereal helps everything coat in marshmallow evenly instead of leaving dry pockets at the bottom.
Butter your hands before pressing
Lightly butter your hands (or a piece of parchment) before pressing the mixture into the pan. Marshmallow is sticky, and buttered hands let you press it flat and even without the whole thing gluing to your fingers. Don’t pack it down too hard or the treats turn dense.
Play with the cereal you have
Fruity Pebbles is just my go-to, but this is a use-what-is-in-the-pantry kind of recipe. For even more twists on the classic, my roundup of 3 Must-Try Rice Krispies Treats Recipes covers ube Oreo, pandan white chocolate, and a campfire S’mores version to riff on.
If you have an actual fire going, the candy bar s’mores campfire hack is worth knowing about too, swapping the plain Hershey’s square for your favorite candy bar skewered and dipped in marshmallow fluff.
Storage & Leftovers
Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, and they stay soft and chewy the whole time. Pressing a piece of parchment or plastic wrap right against the surface helps keep them from drying out. You can freeze them too: wrap the pieces individually and freeze for up to 6 weeks, then let them come back to room temp before eating. I would hold off piping the marshmallow creme until right before serving so it stays fresh and pretty.

Equipment
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 10 oz mini marshmallows
- 5 cups Rice Krispies
- 1 cup Fruity Pebbles
- 1/2 cup marshmallow creme
Instructions
- In a large pot over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add the mini marshmallows and stir occasionally until melted and smooth.
- Turn off the heat and add 3 cups of Rice Krispies, then the Fruity Pebbles, then the last 2 cups of Rice Krispies. Layering them helps everything mix more evenly.
- Stir until everything is fully coated. Line a medium baking pan with parchment paper, dump in the mixture, lightly butter your hands, and gently press it flat. Let it cool for 10 minutes, then cut into pieces.
- Fit a piping tip into a piping bag, fill it with the marshmallow creme, and pipe it onto the top of each piece.
- Serve and enjoy!
I’ve never been big on over the top flavors, so one cup of cereal folded through is about where I want this to land. It’s enough to change the whole thing without turning it into a novelty.
The same trick works with whatever sweet cereal you have around. Cocoa Pebbles, Reese’s Puffs, Fruit Loops, take your pick. 🙌
