Located in Ivy City on 1401 Okie St NE, Gravitas is DC’s newest Michelin Star. I had the pleasure of shooting their new spring menu, and I was over the moon excited to share my thoughts with you guys… but then quarantine 2020 happened.
Lucky for your taste buds though, executive chef Matt Baker and his team are killing the takeout/delivery game. We may be locked inside our homes for the unforeseeable future, but at least we can be locked inside with a Michelin Star meal. They’re serving all sorts of treats so I hope you’re ready to indulge. Pics from my shoot there pre-apocalypse.
Breakfast is served all day long, and they have everything from droolworthy cinnamon rolls to pistachio-buckwheat granola bars. It’s hard not to go HAM because everything sounds so good. I’m currently out of town – I’m playing good daughter and taking care of my parents in PA – so I haven’t had a chance to try any of their to-go stuffs yet, but if I was there, their matzo ball soup, savory bread pudding and their Salvadoran pupusa starters would be in and around my mouth. I’m a sucker for carbs, period, but savory bread pudding with parsnip, gouda, spinach and brioche? Just take all my money.
For entrees, they have all sorts of dishes available. If you’re craving a killer sandwich, choose from their fried chicken or French dip. In terms of noodz, they have a delish sounding campanelle pasta with ox tail ragout and perocino. Sous chef James Collura is also doing an Italian-American spaghetti and meatballs, which I’m sure is bomb.
Another dope option I’m eyeing is the chicken & cheese enchiladas by Bryant Haren, another talented sous from chef Matt’s team. Looking for something a bit healthier? Get an order of their grilled salmon or their half roasted chicken with a side of spaghetti squash with raisins.
Save room for dessert though because they have lavender-passion fruit opera cake along with dark chocolate cake. Dark chocolate is my kryptonite so that would definitely be on my to-go order. They also have frozen cookie dough though…along with pints of house made ice cream…and sorbet. So my recommendation? Stock up so you can splurge like a boss when you want.
Along with ready made items, they have pantry and frozen foods available. If you’re looking to turn up at home, you can also purchase wine, sake, spirits and cocktail packages. Check them out via toast for their full menu and follow them on social to stay in the know. It’s more important than ever for us to support local so let’s all do what we can.
Not sure if you guys saw, but we recently put together a list of fundraising efforts for small businesses so take a look and please share. Alright friends, that’s it for today. Let us know if you have any questions and check back for fresh new content every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay inside.
