Is HipCityVeg Worth the Hype?

Absolutely.  I’m such a fan of HipCityVeg, and I’m really excited to go back and try more of their menu.  I went with one of my closest friends – shoutout to @labellemel31https://nomtasticfoods.net/category/washington-dc/my DC tab – and we got a nice spread to share.  Here’s everything we ordered:

  • Ziggy Burger:  grilled burger, organic tempeh bac’n, provolone cheese and special sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle.
  • Bistro Bella:  grilled portabella, herb dijon glaze, artichoke, tomato, arugula, olive tapenade and red onion.
  • 10 piece Golden Nugget Deal with sweet potato fries
  • Birthday Cake + Cherry Blossom shakes (kids size)

Their burger stole the show IMO.  It was super tasty, and the flavors worked really well together!  As for their Bistro Bella, I enjoy mushroom EVERYTHING so I thought I’d love this, but it was a little too acidic for me?

I think I would’ve enjoyed it more without the pickles.  I didn’t dislike it though, but at the same time, I probably wouldn’t get it again. I really want to try their Buffalo Bella though – made with crispy portabella with celery slaw and tomato.

A close second was their plant based nuggets!  You have the option of getting 6, 10 or 20, and you can add a drink + sweet potato fries for a small upcharge.  These were actually quite impressive in terms of texture, and the accompanying sauces were nom.  I’m not sure if they usually come with 4, but I got honey mustard (YUM), BBQ, ketchup and sriracha aioli (SO YUM) with my meal!

Melanie, my foodie partner in crime for the day, insisted that I needed to try their milkshakes as well so we got their cherry blossom and birthday cake to share.  I liked the latter more, and that was made with organic soy ice cream, organic soy milk, birthday cake and sprinkles.  It realllly tastes like soy (obviously) so make sure you’re ok with those flavors before indulging.  I’ll be sure to try their banana whip next time and update y’all on what I thought.

I went to their location in Penn Quarter DC, but they have locations in Philadelphia, the Philly suburbs, and NY so see if there’s a spot near you!  Note:  they also serve breakfast in addition to lunch and dinner so make sure to stop by if you want something quick and delicious to eat in the AM.
