Units
Scale
- 8 aburaage (fried tofu pouches)
- 2 instant rice cups (14 oz total)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp roasted sesame seeds
- 1 Egg
- 1 lemon
- 1 cucumber
- 1/2 cup salad shrimp (the tiny ones)
- nori flakes (to taste)
- gochugaru (to taste)
Equipment
Instructions
- Season the rice. Microwave the instant rice cups (or use a rice cooker), then stir the sesame oil and roasted sesame seeds into the warm rice.
- Make the egg strips. Beat the egg and cook it in a thin layer in a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat, then slice the sheet into long thin strips.
- Open the pouches. Drain the aburaage and gently open each fried tofu pouch with your fingers.
- Fill. Spoon seasoned rice into each pouch, filling about two-thirds full.
- Top. Leave plain or decorate with shrimp, egg strips, cucumber, thin lemon slices, nori flakes, and gochugaru.
- Serve. Arrange on a plate and enjoy fresh.
Notes
- Season the rice while warm so it absorbs the sesame flavor and stays easy to shape.
- Store-bought seasoned aburaage (inari age) saves time; look for it near the sushi ingredients.
- Keep the egg sheet thin and even for the prettiest ribbon strips.
- Add fresh toppings right before serving so they stay crisp and vibrant.
