Italian getaway in San Diego! Nothing brings people together like good pasta and that is what North Italia has, amazing pasta. Typically, when you think pasta, you think Italian, and when you think Italian, you think of a quiet, romantic, dimmed lights atmosphere. North Italia has taken that and added a modern twist. North Italia has an array of small plates, salads, fresh pasta, pizza, and an enticing assortment of wine. Everything from the food to the ambiance is light and refreshing. Hands down one of my favorite Italian restaurants in San Diego!
No Italian dinner can start without good ole’ Bread & Olive Oil. The best part is dunking your toasty on the outside, soft on the inside bread into the buttery and fragrant olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I also highly recommend the Zucca Chips – paper thinly sliced zucchini, baked into chips. And zucchini is a a vegetable, so it’s healthy, right?
At North Italia, you can choose from a wide range of hand-crafted pasta dishes. Each one is made with fresh handmade pasta – quality you can taste! My top 3 favorites: Strozzapreti, Chicken Pesto, and Bolognese. The Strozzapreti is white sauce based with chicken, mushrooms, spinach and the perfect topping – toasted pine nuts. This dish is everything! It is so creamy, yet so light, and the pine nuts add a toasty and crunchy finish to each bite. Now, don’t forget the chicken pesto and bolognese. The Pesto sauce is a mix of garlic, basil, crispy capers, and toasted pine nuts. It has a distinct lemon taste that brings out all the flavors in a refreshing way! The bolognese is a house specialty – truly a classic dish that North Italia has perfected. The traditional meat sauce has so much flavor, plus a little kick, mixed with tagliatelle noodles & grana padano cheese. You can even substitute for gluten-free pasta or vegetable noodles.
Now during my first couple of visits to North Italia, I only ordered pasta. This time I thought I should try the pizza and boy am I glad I did! If you love mushrooms, you will love the Funghi Pizza. It has roasted mushroom, cipollini onion, and smoked mozzarella. Plus, the crust is the perfect fluffy bed for these bold toppings. And if mushrooms are not your cup of tea, North Italia has six different pizzas to choose from.
Almost every menu item at North Italia can be shared! So choose a few different ones and enjoy together, or keep it all to yourself, I wouldn’t blame you if you did.
North Italia has two convenient locations in San Diego – Fashion Valley and One Paseo. Check out their menu here. North Italia is currently open for outdoor dining, as well as pickup and delivery. And stop in for Happy Hour, Monday through Friday 3 P.M. to 6 P.M.
