Description

King’s Hawaiian apple pie cinnamon rolls turn a 12-pack of sweet rolls into a pull-apart cinnamon roll slab layered with brown sugar, cinnamon, and gooey apple pie filling, finished with an easy icing drizzle.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Cinnamon Rolls

  • 1 King's Hawaiian Rolls 12-pack
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 can Comstock apple pie filling (20 oz)

Icing

Equipment

Instructions

  1. Split the rolls. Preheat the oven to 350F. Keeping the King’s Hawaiian rolls connected, slice the whole pack in half horizontally with a bread knife into a top and bottom layer. Set the bottom layer on a nonstick or lightly buttered pan.
  2. Layer the filling. Mix the dark brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread a quarter cup of softened butter on the bottom layer, sprinkle on two-thirds to three-quarters of the cinnamon sugar, then add an even layer of apple pie filling.
  3. Top it off. Set the top layer back on, butter it with the remaining softened butter, and sprinkle on the rest of the cinnamon sugar.
  4. Bake. Bake for 15 minutes, until the tops are golden.
  5. Make the icing. Whisk the melted butter, powdered sugar, salt, milk, and vanilla together. Start with 2 tbsp milk and add more for a thinner drizzle.
  6. Finish. Transfer to a plate, drizzle with icing, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use a serrated bread knife and a gentle sawing motion to split the rolls without squishing them.
  • Keep the apple pie filling in an even, moderate layer so the rolls hold together.
  • The rolls are pre-baked, so 15 minutes is mostly about warming the filling and melting the butter.
  • Let the rolls cool a few minutes before icing so it sets into a glaze.
  • Swap in homemade apple filling if you prefer, though canned keeps it fast.
  • Store covered up to 2 days at room temperature and rewarm to revive the gooey texture.
