I’ve seen a couple of these King’s Hawaiian cream cheese danish recipes floating around, so I decided to try and make my own, and WOW they’re delicious! 😋
You can use the regular rolls or the sweet rolls, both turn out super fluffy, gooey in the middle, and if you let them sit for awhile, the rolls really soak in all the flavor from the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
I’ve found that there are two ways to eat these. First, if you eat them right away, the cream cheese filling is still warm and runny. Or you can let them sit for 10-15 mins and the filling will solidify like a normal danish.
They take just 20 minutes to make, and are perfect if you need to throw together a quick dessert.
And if cinnamon rolls are more your thing, don’t sleep on my King’s Hawaiian Apple Pie Cinnamon Buns!

An easy King’s Hawaiian rolls recipe for cream cheese danishes
This is one of those easy King’s Hawaiian rolls recipes that feels like a cheat code. You take a pack of King’s Hawaiian rolls, cut a well in each one, and fill it with a sweet cream cheese mixture before baking. If you have been looking for King’s Hawaiian rolls recipes beyond sliders, this cream cheese danish version is about as easy as it gets and comes together in about 15 minutes.
On the savory side, King’s Hawaiian rolls are also the base for this King’s Hawaiian Tamago Sando, a Japanese egg salad sandwich with Kewpie mayo that is surprisingly simple and completely different from anything else you can do with the rolls.
INGREDIENTS (12 danishes)
– 12 King’s Hawaiian Rolls
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter
– 2 tbsp brown sugar
– 2 tsp cinnamon
– 8 oz cream cheese
– 3 tbsp granulated sugar
– 1 egg
Equipment
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Cut holes in the middle of each roll almost to the bottom, but not all the way through.
Put 12 King’s Hawaiian Rolls into an oven safe pan and use a steak knife to cut out the centers of each roll. Cut about 3/4 of the way down, but not all the way through!

2. Make the cinnamon butter
Melt 1/2 cup of butter in the microwave and mix in the brown sugar and cinnamon. Then coat the rolls inside and out with the mixture. Apply generously!

3. Make the cream cheese filling
In a medium mixing bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, and egg. The cream cheese needs to be soft, so if you’re taking it directly out of the fridge, heat it in the microwave for about 20 seconds.

4. Fill the holes
Use a small spoon to pour the cream cheese mixture into the center of each roll.

5. Put them in the oven
Preheat oven to 375 degrees and put the rolls in for 12 minutes.
6. Add cinnamon and enjoy!
Take them out, sprinkle some cinnamon on top, and either eat them right away for a warm, runny cream cheese filling, or let them sit for 15 minutes so the filling solidifies.
