VIEWS! Views are all I can say when coming to Layover on the San Diego Harbor – views of sunset and sea. Layover is an “Aviation” themed, laid-back rooftop bar and lounge located on the fourth floor rooftop of InterContinental San Diego. Enjoy aero-inspired cocktails and delicious bites while watching the planes take off from San Diego airport and North Island naval station. They even have a complimentary viewer to view San Diego bay and airborne activity. Layover also has an adjoining pool and cabana area to beat the heat! Purchase your pool day pass through Resort Pass.

Drinks
Layover creates craft slushy versions of classic drinks – small but mighty! Two choices to choose from – “Paper Plane” has Bulleit Bourbon, Apersol, and Drapo Vermouth, and “Aviation” has Aviation Gin, Violet Liqueur, Maraschino, and Lemon.

Both so delicious and refreshing! Layover also has a variety of canned wines and craft beers (a few on draft too). Although their drink menu is more focused on “ready-to-go” cocktails, they have a full bar that can pretty much create any type of drink you like. I ordered the Tequila Sunrise. It was one of those rare cocktails where there was clearly enough alcohol, but tasted just as great – so pretty too!

Food
While the food and beverages might be focused on approachability, quality is not sacrificed. The menu at Layover is full of variety and exactly the types of dishes you would want on a relaxed day by the firepit. The Stone Oven Pizza and Blackened Local Halibut Fish Tacos are my favorites!

The fish tacos are stuffed with fresh, blackened halibut and topped with avocado crema. They taste slightly blackened, but not too much, so you could still appreciate the locally caught seafood.
I am still dreaming of Layover’s stone oven pizza. With your choice of cheese or pepperoni (or both!), you sure will not be disappointed. The tomato sauce is bright, fresh and so tasty. The slices of pepperoni are bigger than your typical pepperoni and had a slight kick – so good, so cheesy!

And the Bloody Mary Shrimp Cocktail is the perfect appetizer to enjoy with your slushies! Baby shrimp, pickled jicama, cucumber, and celery tossed in a house-made bloody mary mix with a nice kick.

Layover is open daily noon to sunset and complimentary parking is offered for up to 3 hours with validation.
