Sushi with a Side of Stars at Lumi Rooftop by Akira

WOW! is all I have to say after dining at Lumi Rooftop in San Diego’s Gaslamp District. This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in San Diego. Lumi Rooftop is the newest, hottest rooftop restaurant in San Diego and it is brought to you by Michelin star chef, Akira Back. It definitely lives up to the hype – the drinks, the food, the service and the ambiance were all ON POINT!

Cocktails

Lumi has an incredible cocktail menu with super creative drinks that I’ve never seen before. My favorite drink I tried (and their most popular drink) was the Oath of Yakuza, made with sake, strawberry, vanilla, lavender, fresh lemon, and egg white, and comes with a pretty design on top.

Their cocktail menu also features a Thai-inspired cocktail (made with Skrewball peanut butter whiskey), Lumi’s twist on a Mai Tai, a coffee-themed drink, a cocktail featuring butterfly pea, and Japanese whiskey!

The Akira Back Pizza at Lumi is a MUST TRY! The pizza features tuna, yellowtail, serrano peppers, red onions, beets, tomatoes, micro cilantro and ponzu mayo on top of a thin, crispy crust, and it is absolutely divine.

Although much of the menu at Lumi is focused on seafood and sushi, they do have several vegetarian and other meat options. All of the seafood here is extremely fresh, and the presentation is so beautiful and exquisite. The flavors of each dish are carefully thought out and complement each other so well.

Dessert

Lumi Rooftop by Akira dessert

Make sure you save some room for dessert when you go to Lumi because you do not want to miss out on the Matcha Mousse Cake. I cannot even describe how heavenly this dish was – it’s made of matcha mousse, passionfruit, black sesame, and it was the perfect combination of flavors and textures. The Executive Pastry Chef, Melanie Stagnaro, was the executive pastry sous chef for James Beard Award-winning Dominique Ansel (inventor of the Cronut).

Lumi is open for dine in from 4pm-11pm on Wednesday-Friday and 12pm-11pm on Saturday. Their reservations book up quickly, so click here to book yours today!
