“One of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak”
This little Barbadian rhyme, that dates back centuries, is how every bartender remembers how to make a rum punch. The rum punch is a cocktail that stands the test of time, and if you stick to the rhyme, you are bound to have a wonderful drink on your hands. One of sour is the citrus. Two of sweet is your sugar. Three of strong is your alcohol. Four of weak is your lengthener, i.e. water, soda, tea, or in our case, ginger ale!
It’s national Rum Punch Day, so I decided to try my hand at the simple, yet incredible Caribbean cocktail. I didn’t do anything fancy, but I guarantee its exactly the cocktail you need in 2020! You have two options with this cocktail: 1) make this as an individual cocktail or 2) make this as a punch and share it with your friends like its intended! Either way, just scale the ingredients. If you’re making it as an individual cocktail, uses ounces, if you are making a punch for you and your friends, use cups.
- 1 part lime juice
- 2 parts simple syrup
- 1 ½ parts Barbados Aged rum and 1 ½ parts Aperol
- 4 parts Q Ginger Ale
Add ingredients into a punch bowl and add ice. Stir with a ladle until properly chilled. Add citrus and nutmeg and enjoy the community only a punch bowl can provide!
