Mints and Honey: Next Level Brunch

Just a short (and totally worthwhile) trip from San Francisco and perfectly situated in the Peninsula, Mints and Honey, located at 1524 El Camino Real in San Carlos, CA is a charming family and dog friendly brunch spot with super awesome and unique eats and drinks. With the selection they provide, there’s definitely something for everyone. But it’s not like those places that offer tons of so-so items – everything we tried was legit!

To start off, we had a regular Latte and the Iced Mango Matcha Latte. The regular latte was great, but we’re HUGE matcha fans and the mango matcha latte went beyond our expectations. The mango added a fruity sweetness that complemented the creaminess of the rest of the drink. We were curious to see if it would be overly sweet, but nope. It was perfectly balanced and this will probably be our go-to take out drink if we’re feeling like something unique in the future!

When the food started coming out at Mints and Honey, we were instantly impressed with Mints & Honey’s attention to detail and plating/presentation. One of the best examples of this was their Smoked Salmon Toast. Stacked with avocado, arugula, smoked salmon, capers, onions, and mint leaves, the amount of flavor packed into each bite totally blew our minds. This one is highly recommended!

Next up, we had the Berries and Yogurt Waffle, which was beautifully plated, as well. Topped with colorful flowers and strawberries, we seriously couldn’t stop eating after the first bite and ended up demolishing the whole plate. To top it all off (on top of the toppings), they drizzled everything in honey, which was the perfect way to bring all the ingredients together. If your sweet tooth is calling out to you, this is the one for you.

We then got the chance to try the Avocado with Egg Toast and were not disappointed at all. This dish may look simple compared to the other ones, but don’t let that fool you. The egg complements the delicious avocado like it was meant to be, and the spices on top give it that little extra umph that widens your eyes in pure delight.

It was already busy at Mints and Honey when we arrived at 9:30am, but by closer to 10:30 or 11am there was a line out the door, which is a testament to both the quality of their food and drinks, and also the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Even with the dreary, misty morning looming overhead, everyone working there made us feel super comfortable and right at home.
