Description
Miso hot chocolate stirs white miso into warm cocoa for a sweet-and-salty, umami-rich drink that tastes like a salted chocolate chip cookie in a mug.
Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup Hot Cocoa Mix (I use Ghirardelli)
- 2 teaspoons White Miso Paste
- Marshmallows, to taste
Equipment
Instructions
- Heat the milk. Pour the milk into a large microwave-safe measuring cup and microwave for 3 minutes.
- Whisk it in. Add the hot cocoa mix and miso and whisk until fully combined and smooth.
- Serve. Pour into mugs, top with marshmallows and a sprinkle of cocoa mix, and enjoy.
Notes
- Use white (shiro) miso for the mildest, sweetest result.
- Dissolve the miso in a splash of warm milk first to avoid clumps.
- Start with less miso and add to taste; it should whisper, not shout.
- Stovetop works too: warm the milk over medium and do not let it boil.
- Any good hot cocoa mix works; a darker mix balances the salt nicely.
