As if Panda Express orange chicken wasn’t good enough already 😋 Next time you’re ordering delivery, try this. You wrap their orange chicken in a crunchy Eggo waffle folded into a cone, and I promise it’s worth the extra ten minutes. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s delicious af. Three ingredients, one pan, and you end up with something that looks like you planned it!

What Makes These Orange Chicken Waffle Cones So Good
This one’s a texture play. The Eggo waffle crisps in the oven until it cracks a little when you bite it, and then you hit that soft, saucy orange chicken tucked inside. Sweet, tangy, a bit sticky, all wrapped in buttery waffle crunch. It’s chicken and waffles rolled into something you eat with one hand!
Plus, it leans all the way into the easy-hack lane, which is exactly my speed. You’re not battering or frying anything from scratch, because Panda already nailed the orange chicken, so I’m just giving it a crispy new jacket and a fun shape. It’s the same lean-on-store-bought-protein energy as my Costco rotisserie chicken rice hack, where a whole rotisserie bird and a couple of instant rice cups turn into dinner in about five minutes.
Does It Work With the Spicy Orange Chicken?
It does, and I’d say it’s even better. The hot orange chicken against all that buttery waffle is SO good, because the sweetness of the waffle takes the edge off the heat and you get both at once. Green onions on top keep it from going one-note, and I wouldn’t skip them even though they look like a garnish.

Tips for Making Orange Chicken Waffle Cones
1. Thaw the waffles first so they fold
Straight from the freezer, an Eggo will crack the second you try to bend it. Microwave them for about 40 seconds first so they go soft and pliable, and then they fold into a cone without snapping. A quick pass with a rolling pin flattens them slightly and makes wrapping even easier.
2. Use a toothpick to hold the shape
Once you’ve folded a waffle around a piece of chicken, push a toothpick through the seam to lock it while it bakes. Without one the waffle springs right back open on you. Just remember to pull them out before anyone takes a bite!
3. Bake on parchment for max crunch
Line the pan with parchment and give the cones the full 12 minutes, or until the edges go deep golden. That crunch is CRAZY satisfying and it’s the entire point, so I wouldn’t pull them early. It’s the same crispy-Eggo trick I use in my Eggo waffle grilled cheese, where the waffle stands in for buttery toast.
4. Fill them right before eating
Saucy chicken sitting in a crispy cone will soften it within a few minutes, so bake the cones, then fill them as you’re ready to eat. I’d rather hand someone an empty cone and let them load it than serve six soggy ones.

Storage and Leftovers
Filled cones don’t keep, since the sauce softens the waffle fast. What I’d do is store the parts separately, and the baked empty cones will hold in an airtight container for a day.
Re-crisp them for 3 to 4 minutes in a 400F oven or the air fryer and they come right back! Leftover orange chicken reheats fine in the microwave, so you can rebuild a fresh one whenever.
Equipment
- Baking pan
- Parchment paper
- Rolling pin
- Toothpicks
Ingredients
- 6 Eggo waffles
- 1 large Panda Express orange chicken
- 2 stalks green onions, chopped
Substitutions and Swaps
- The orange chicken. Any saucy takeout protein works the same way, so sesame chicken, general tso’s or honey walnut shrimp all slot in. What you want is something in bite-size pieces with a thick sauce, because a thin runny one soaks into the waffle immediately.
- The Eggo waffles. Any thin frozen waffle folds fine. I’d stay away from thick Belgian-style ones, since they crack at the fold instead of bending, and you’ll lose the cone shape entirely.
- The green onions. Chopped chives or thinly sliced scallion tops do the same job. Sesame seeds are good too, they just don’t cut the sweetness the way something fresh and sharp does.
- Making it from scratch. If you’d rather not order out, homemade orange chicken works, though at that point you’ve turned a ten-minute hack into an hour. The whole appeal here for me is what you’re NOT doing.
- The oven. An air fryer crisps these beautifully at 375F for about 8 minutes. Just work in batches so they’re not leaning on each other and losing their shape.

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400F. Thaw the Eggo waffles by microwaving them for about 40 seconds.
- Use a rolling pin to flatten the waffles a little, then fold each one into a cone around a piece of chicken and push a toothpick through to hold the shape.
- Set them all on a baking pan lined with parchment paper and bake for 12 minutes, or until crispy.
- While you wait, chop the green onions and set them aside.
- Take the cones out, pull the toothpicks, and fill them with the orange chicken.
- Top with green onions and eat them right away.

The reason this works is contrast. Orange chicken on its own is sticky and sweet the whole way through, and a crisp waffle around it gives you something plain and crunchy to break that up.
It’s a leftovers move more than a cooking project. If you’ve got half a container of orange chicken sitting in the fridge, this is a better ending for it than a plate. 🙌
If you make these, leave a star rating on the recipe card and tell me in the comments whether you went regular or spicy. It really helps other people find the recipe, and I want to know what else you stuffed in there!
