Growing up, Rice Krispies Treats were always on the dessert table at our big family gatherings. We’d have the classic version every single time, and I loved them, but I always wondered what they’d taste like with different flavors.
Fast forward to now, and I’ve been having SO much fun experimenting with different variations. After making my Ube Rice Krispie Treats with ube extract, I wanted to try something a little more natural this time. Enter pandan powder! These pandan rice krispie treats turned out absolutely amazing, and the half dipped in white chocolate? 🤯

What Makes Pandan Rice Krispie Treats So Good
If you’ve never tried pandan before, you’re seriously missing out. It’s a plant that’s super popular in Southeast Asian desserts, and the flavor is kind of hard to describe but totally unique. Think sweet and toasty with hints of vanilla, coconut, and hazelnut all mixed together. It’s aromatic in the best way possible.
Pandan also shows up beautifully in warm desserts like this Pumpkin Sago Dessert (Warm, Creamy, and Cozy), where it adds a fragrant layer to the coconut milk broth.
When you combine that flavor with the classic crispy, chewy texture of Rice Krispies Treats and add a layer of sweet white chocolate, seriously tasty. The bright green color is also gorgeous and makes these treats look fancy even though they’re ridiculously easy to make. Perfect for parties, potlucks, or just when you want something fun and different!
Another easy cereal bar worth trying is these Special K Marshmallow Treats, which use Red Berries cereal for a sweet, berry-chocolate flavor that comes together with no baking at all.

Tips for Making the Best Pandan Rice Krispie Treats
Use Quality Pandan Powder
Not all pandan powder is created equal! I used 100% pure pandan powder for this recipe, which gives you that authentic flavor and beautiful natural green color. You can find it at most Asian grocery stores or online. Some pandan extracts have artificial coloring or additives, so check the label if you want to keep things natural.
Don’t Skimp on the Butter When Greasing
When you’re pressing the Rice Krispies mixture into your pan, use a small piece of parchment paper and something flat like a measuring cup to really compress it. This helps the treats hold together better and gives you cleaner cuts. Trust me, it makes a huge difference in getting that perfect square shape instead of crumbly pieces.
Get the Marshmallow Mixture Right
The key to smooth, evenly colored pandan rice krispies treats is making sure your marshmallows are completely melted before adding the pandan powder. Stir continuously over medium-low heat (patience is key here!) and once the marshmallows are totally smooth, mix in the pandan powder until there are no streaks. If you add it too early, you’ll end up with uneven color.
White Chocolate Melting Wafers Are Your Friend
I used white chocolate melting wafers instead of regular white chocolate chips because they melt smoother and harden better at room temperature. You don’t need to temper them or anything fancy. Just microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each one, and you’re good to go. Way easier than dealing with temperamental chocolate!
Let Them Cool Completely Before Cutting
I know it’s tempting to dig in right away (I definitely snuck a piece while it was still warm 😆), but letting the pandan rice krispie treats cool for at least 5-10 minutes, but probably longer, makes them way easier to cut into clean squares. If you try to cut them while they’re still hot, they’ll fall apart and stick to your knife.

Serving Suggestions
These pandan rice krispie treats are honestly perfect on their own, but they’re also amazing served alongside other Asian-inspired desserts. I love putting together a dessert spread with these and my Viral Flat Croissants with Matcha White Chocolate for a fun fusion vibe.
They’re also great for kids’ parties or bake sales because they’re colorful, fun, and super easy to grab and eat.
If you want to get creative, you can also drizzle some extra melted white chocolate on top in a zigzag pattern or add some sprinkles before the chocolate sets. The pandan powder dust on top is totally optional, but it adds a nice pop of color and extra pandan flavor!

Storage and Leftovers
Store your pandan rice krispie treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can layer them between sheets of parchment paper to keep them from sticking together.
If you want to keep them longer, they also freeze really well! Just wrap them individually in plastic wrap and store in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Let them thaw at room temperature for about 30 minutes before eating. The texture stays pretty much perfect.

The white chocolate dipping technique I used here also works great for other treats. I did something similar with my Chocolate Covered Mandarin Oranges, and it’s such an easy way to make simple desserts look fancy.

Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 10 oz marshmallows (usually 1 bag)
- 2 tablespoons + 1/2 teaspoon pandan powder (divided)
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 15 oz white chocolate melting wafers
Notes: You can find pure pandan powder at Asian grocery stores or online. If you can only find pandan extract, use 2 teaspoons instead of the powder, but note that the color might be even deeper.
Equipment
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-low heat, then pour in the marshmallows.
- Stir continuously to mix in the butter and evenly melt the marshmallows. Once they’re completely melted and smooth, add 2 tablespoons of pandan powder and mix together until the mixture is a uniform green color all throughout with no streaks.
- Remove the pot from the heat, pour in the Rice Krispies cereal, and mix until all the cereal is evenly coated with the green marshmallow mixture.
- Line a small baking pan (8×8 or 9×9 works great) with parchment paper and transfer the Rice Krispies mixture into it. Use a small piece of parchment paper and the bottom of a measuring cup to compress and shape the mixture into an even layer. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes until firm.
- Transfer the Rice Krispies block onto a cutting board and use a sharp knife to cut into pieces of your desired size. I like making about 12-16 squares depending on how big I want them.
- Melt the white chocolate wafers by pouring them into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring with a spoon in between each interval, until completely melted and smooth.
- Dip each Rice Krispies Treat into the melted white chocolate about halfway up, letting the excess chocolate drip off before placing it back on a parchment paper-lined surface. Repeat for each piece.
- Dust the white chocolate with the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of pandan powder if desired. This step is totally optional but adds a nice visual touch and extra pandan flavor!
- Let the treats sit at room temperature until the chocolate hardens, about 15-20 minutes. Or, if you’re like me, enjoy them while the chocolate is still melty because they taste really freakin’ good that way too!
If you’ve never had pandan, it’s grassy and vanilla-ish with a coconut edge, and a lot more subtle than the color leads you to expect. That’s exactly why it works here instead of steamrolling the marshmallow.
You’ll find the extract at most Asian grocery stores, and a small bottle lasts a very long time. 🙌
These pandan rice krispie treats are seriously so good and SO easy to make. The flavor is unique, the color is beautiful, and they disappear fast at any gathering. Would you try making these? Let me know what you think! 🙌
