Prino’s: A Family-Run Greek Restaurant in Hanover, MD

Hanover, Maryland’s not exactly a tourist attraction, but Live! Casino’s there along with the Arundel Mills outlet mall.  Dining options are fairly slim, which is why we’re here to help you guys out.  We’ll be publishing a full guide on where to eat in the area, but until then, let this feature on Prino’s tide you over.

prino's gyro

Located at 7690 Dorchester Boulevard, this small family-run joint has some really great deals available.  Although they offer delivery through various apps, you definitely want to call directly for pickup because of the following reasons. First and foremost, apps like GrubHub and Uber Eats take a large percentage of each order for themselves so the restaurants’ profit margins are even smaller than they would be normally.

You may have also noticed that often times the prices of dishes on said apps are higher – not to mention the delivery fees, merchant fees, and services fees on top of the increased prices – so you end up paying a hefty premium for these services.  Times are tough enough as is so let’s do what we can to help our local mom and pop shops.

Second, they offer awesome takeout deals so it’s a win-win for everyone.  Here are the following promos available at their brick and mortar:

  • Sub Tuesday: Cold cut, cheese steak, chicken steak with fries and drink for $11.99
  • Gyro Wednesday:  gyro combo, fries, drink for $13.99
  • Chicken Thursday:  half chicken, 2 sides, drink for $12.99
  • Seafood Friday:  shrimp (6pcs) platter and drink for $14.99,  fried flounder sandwich, fries & drink for $12.99
  • Stuffed Pepper Saturday:  Stuffed peppers & potatoes for $14.99
  • Sunday Funday:  Wings (10 pcs) 11.99, crab dip fries $11.99

To briefly touch upon the aforementioned offers, you definitely want to swing by on Sunday for their honey old bay wings and Wednesday to get their gyro combo so mark your calendars.  Now, in terms of recommendations, there are a few key dishes that come to mind.

prino's wings

As mentioned, the wings are an absolute must.  We don’t know what other flavors they offer at Prino’s, but we honestly don’t care because their honey old bay is THAT good.  In fact, we’d go as far as to say that they were some of the best wings we’ve ever had, like they must put magic in their breading.

crispy old bay wings

We’re convinced that’s the only explanation because how else do they get their wings so crispy? On top of that, they harvest their own honey so that’s a neat little tidbit.  Just trust us when we say it’ll be love at first bite.

lamb gyros

Next up, their gyro.  For $13.99, their Wednesday combo’s a great deal.  They give you a phat gyro that’s stuffed to the brim.  Think slices of shaved gyro meat served on fluffy pita, topped with minced tomato, red onion and tzatziki sauce.  We’re team lamb, but you have the often of getting chicken if you prefer.

lamb chop platter

Want something a little more substantial for yourself?  Try their lamb chop platter.  Priced at $23.40, the meat’s charcoal grilled and marinated with Greek herbs and served with rice, pita, salad and tzatziki sauce.

If you’re ordering for a group of people, make sure to get either (or both) their Mediterranean Sampler and hand-cut Greek fries to start.  The former comes with feta cheese, Greek caviar, kalamata olives, artichoke hearts and stuffed grape leaves for $15.50, and it’s a great way to kick off any meal.

loaded greek fries

As you can see, these fries are extremely food-porny!  They’re hand-cut and sprinkled with feta, tzatziki and Greek oregano.  They’re thick so you don’t get much crispiness, but they’re still delicious in their own way.  The creaminess of the cheese and tzatziki work really well with this style of fry.

Alright friends, that’s it for today.  We hope you enjoyed reading our latest restaurant feature!  On top of pickup and delivery, Prino’s is open for dine-in (11-9PM daily) as well so definitely make sure to pay them a visit if you feel comfortable eating out.
