Rise and shine to Rise & Shine Hospitality Group (R&S). R&S is behind on creating some of the spots in San Diego – everything from breakfast to tacos! These include Breakfast Republic, Breakfast Company, Eggies, and California Taco Club. They are a MUST try for any SD local or visitors!
When I moved to San Diego, Breakfast Republic was one of the first breakfast spots I tried, and I still visit all the time. They now have TEN locations across California, eight of which are in San Diego. This place is just pure fun for you and your taste buds, plus it’s an Instagrammer’s DREAM.
You will truly appreciate the quirky quotes printed on almost all their tableware such as coffee cups and at the bottom of your plate. Every dish I have tried has been nothing but delightful. My absolute favorite is the Shrimp & Grits breakfast. This beauty contains grits infused with gouda cheese and shrimp cooked with br cluckin’ good hot sauce, fresh sweet corn, and chives, and 3 eggs. THIS dish is what keeps me coming back again and again.
But, if I’m telling the truth, the pancake flights play a big role in me returning too. At Breakfast Republic, you can order a flight of 3 pancakes of your choosing. I highly recommend the lemon coconut, strawberry cheesecake, and cinnamon roll pancakes – perfectly fluffy and full of flavor! The menu also has plenty more including benedicts, omelets, and a small vegan section with five different options!
Similar to Breakfast Republic, Breakfast Company has an amazing menu full of different takes on breakfast and brunch dishes. I also love the stylish décor, striking pink logo, and the unique use of different furniture pieces to create a warm atmosphere.
Now as far as food goes, you must order the Mashed Potato Waffle, I BEG OF YOU. It is THAT good. This super-savory waffle is topped with a mouthwatering cheese sauce, spicy sausage, green onions, and eggs. Are you drooling yet? Now if a savory waffle isn’t your first choice, there are plenty of other options like Fried Rice Benedict or the Breakfast Co. Flight – mix n’ match waffles, pancakes, or french toast. Breakfast Company is now open for extended outdoor dining in the Gaslamp Quarter. Open daily 7am-3pm.
And no brunch is complete without delicious bloody’s and mimosas, am I right? Both Breakfast Republic and Breakfast Company have an incredible drink menu – almost as big as the food menu! Of course a bloody mary is a must or splurge for a bottle of bubbly + OJ for only $22. On the non-alcholic side, the menu is full of specialty coffees, teas, and fresh squeezed juices. I loved the Anaptogenic Antioxidant Shots at Breakfast Republic – choose from Tropical Detox, Cellular Cleanse, or Immune Boost or grab a flight of all for a cleansing start to your weekend!
Eggies is another R&S gem. This adorable breakfast spot will definitely catch your eye with their bright colors, life-sized “egg” chairs, and easy grab n’ go breakfast jars and sandwiches! This walk-up window offers a menu of several different breakfast sandwiches, each served on a brioche bun and an over medium egg. The Eggies Classic or “What Came First?”, featuring fried chicken, eggcellent sauce, house pickles, and muenster cheese, are truly two delicious top choices.
The other stars of the show are definitely the sweet French Toast Jar – stacked brioche bread, strawberries, mascarpone cream, and brown sugar crumble, or the savory Potato Hash – bacon eggs, sharp cheddar, and chives. WOW! You will not be disappointed. Plus, you get to keep the cute mason jar! Eggies has three convenient locations in San Diego – East Village, Pacific Beach, and Liberty Station. Open daily 7am-3pm.
California Taco Club
California Taco Club is the newest addition to the Rise & Shine Hospitality Group. This beach-friendly taco shop is attached to the side of Breakfast Republic and Eggies in Pacific Beach. They offer a grab-and-go style menu including various street tacos and burritos stuffed with carne asada, spicy shrimp, and beer-battered oyster mushrooms!
The Surf and Turf taco immediately stands out. Right above the fresh corn tortilla is a layer of melted muenster cheese crisped to perfection and topped with carne asada, spicy shrimp, pico de gallo, avocado, and cilantro crema – SO good! All of their tacos (and burritos!) are so fresh and tasty – perfect for a quick lunch during a beach day.
The trendy “Cali” walk-up window will sure grab your attention with their colorful décor and surfboard outdoor seating! CTC is open daily 11am-9pm (till 10pm on Friday and Saturday).
R&S Hospitably Group is also behind the great Fig Tree Cafe. Fig Tree Cafe was the first restaurant of R&S which opened back in 2008. This rustic California eatery offers an extensive menu of tasty breakfast and lunch dishes!
