The Must Try Michelin Star Brunch in San Francisco

I think we all know fine dining don’t come cheap, but Spruce’s brunch service?  Very much worth the splurge.  $70’s definitely steep, but they give you a lot of bang for your buck.  A 3-course meal + just baked pastries that are so good, you may just cry tears of joy.   Like any bougie place, you have the option of adding truffles or caviar service, but you’ll leave happy and full even without dropping the extra moolah.

To start, they brought us (my mom and I), 2 muffins + a brown butter scone with butter and apricot jam.  One of the options was even gluten-free…which doesn’t matter to us since we eat ALL the gluten, but I thought it was great to have that available for those with dietary restrictions.

For round one, we got their half-dozen Saint Simon oysters and their Apulian burrata and shinko pear salad.  The former came with champagne mignonette, lemon and house made hot sauce, while the latter was served with Chiogga beets, brioche toasts and aged balsamic.  Both dishes were excellent – highly recommend!

As for our main course, there were so many droolworthy options to choose from, but we ultimately went with their French omelet (serve with savoy spinach and topped with l’original brie and mornay sauce) and their red wine-braised short rib (served with poached eggs, potato rosti and hollandaise).

Although the omelet was tasty, it was a little too rich for my taste.  I loved the short rib though, and I honestly couldn’t believe there wasn’t an up-charge for it!  I’m still dreaming about their potato – so savory and deliciousness.  And finally, dessert.  They had 3 choices available, but we ended up passing on their s’mores cake and getting their beignets + apple “pie.”

Both were solid, but the more interesting option was the deconstructed pie.  It came with a side of whipped creme fraiche and maple bourbon ice cream.  You could REALLY taste the alcohol in the ice cream!  Personally, I was a fan and enjoyed all the different flavors and textures, but I feel like you’ll either love it or feel “meh” about it.
