The Best Happy Hours in Baltimore

Nomsters, you’re in for a very special treat today.  We’ve partnered up with our favorite Charm City influencers to talk happy hour.  If you’re looking for amazing HH deals in Baltimore, bookmark this post because you’re gonna want to hit up every single one of these places.  Trust us when we say some serious foodporn’s about to be shown…

Dan Ahn aka danahn17:  I love Wit and Wisdom’s lounge.  I mean, their bar looks like a giant egg-shaped spaceship!  How can you NOT love that?  Anyways, take a seat at the bar and try one of their seasonal cocktails. Personally, I’m a fan of their take on the Hot Buttered Rum; it’s perfect for the colder weather we’re (finally!) having.  And if those aren’t reasons enough to visit, consider this: Pastry Chef Dyan Ng has some of the best desserts around AND you can order them with your drinks.  Alcohol and Dessert?  Sign me up!

Leandro Lagera aka Food Nomad:  “Where do we wanna be? Ida B’s!” I’m not sure why I put quotes around that because I’m pretty sure I totally just made that up. But, if we’re talking about Happy Hour then the sentiment stands. You definitely want to be at Ida B’s for Happy Hour.  Happy Hour usually goes from 4-7 on weekdays and 5-7 on Fridays and because it’s downtown, you’re liable to run into a mix of people from all walks of life. The space is gorgeous in an industrial chic meets soulful charm kind of way. For Happy Hour, they have a special bar menu offering some dope small plates like deviled eggs with crispy fried chicken skin or octopus sliders. If burgers are your thing, they have beef, lamb and eggplant choices. The rotating Wine of the Week is only $5 per glass and It’s $2 off all menu cocktails and there’s always a cocktail of the week. Also, right now, Ida B’s has a brand new cocktail menu littered with creativity and whimsy. From the My Funny Valentine to Six Foot, Seven Foot, you will find a drink for  you. So, I’m gonna ask again. Where do you wanna B?

Lena Tashjian aka Dine Well Bmore:  I’m slightly biased when it comes to Salt because I happen to live within walking distance from this quaint, modern American restaurant. Nevertheless, I’m not alone in thinking that this spot has some of the best food and drink in town. You can often find me sitting at the bar indulging in my very favorite drink — the Oliver Twist featuring Green Hat gin, St. Germain, Jack Rudy tonic and lemon. If you don’t live for every light and lemony gin-based drink like I do, you can find several other options featured prominently on their chalkboard drink menu. Salt offers happy hour from 5-7pm with $2 off small plates like their grilled Spanish octopus and wagyu beef tartare, just to name a few. If you find yourself at Salt on a Wednesday, you can even order the grown-up version of a happy meal (known as the “happier meal”) with a wagyu-foie gras slider, duck fat fries and a bourbon chocolate milkshake. Sounds (and tastes) like happiness to me.

Rachel Lipton aka Like the TEA EATS:  My go-to happy hour spot is Hersh’s in Federal Hill. In the kitchen they’re slinging some of the best wood fired Neapolitan pizzas (the fumo e fucco is my favorite, topped with eggplant and chili oil – it’s so yummy). The pizza is thin crust but still stays super chewy, I’m drooling just thinking about it. But, the best part about Hersh’s is the happy hour deal. Monday – Friday from 5-7pm, you can get any two beers for $6.50. That’s a BOGO 10oz pour and perfect for trying new brews. They also always have a $5 cocktail and $5 glasses of wine to accompany your meal.

Tim “Chyno” Chin aka The Boy with the Blue Beard & The Baltimore Foodie:  When I think of A new favorite happy hour in baltimore one name comes to mind: Minnow; the recently opened sustainable seafood restaurant in south baltimore. Tucked away in the newley developed Wells Street area , this soon to be seafood powerhouse packs a mighty fine punch. With an array of small plates including delectable avocado toasts, moules frites and 4 both visually and palate pleasing bait boxes ( served in sardine cans ) it easily competes with any of the baltimore great happy hours. The creativity exuded in their cocktail menu simply put; blows me away every time they update their menu. Minnow’s cool kid meets 1st time home buyer clientele mixed with its made for instagram ambience makes it the perfect spot for foodies and friends alike.

Rachel from Fleet Street Write-Up:  I like Bluebird Cocktail Room because it combines my two favorite things: literature and hand-crafted cocktails. The mixologists at Bluebird treat cocktail making as an art. You can be assured that the drink you order will always be handled with the utmost care with a little bit of flair! For me, being served a quality, beautiful cocktail during happy hour is a great way to end the work day. Food wise, you can get half off all their snacks. Cocktail wise, their drink deals switch up here and there. During this past summer, they had their Pimm’s Cup as their happy hour cocktail deal. This fall it’s the Miss Ilsa Draft cocktail. The cool part is that you can enjoy their happy hour all day Sunday and Monday too!

Erika Choi aka Choi Sauce Boss:  There are many things to consider when choosing the perfect spot for happy hour. Between the food selections, drink specials, and logistics of actually getting a table, a successful happy hour effectively incorporates these elements into a unique experience at a great value. For those looking for the best happy hour in the Baltimore area, it does not get any better than the Basque kitchen at La Cuchara. Their seasonal menu (half off during happy hour) utilizes fresh, local ingredients in a creative way while paying homage to traditional Spanish cooking. It also guarantees that each trip is a new experience, even for regulars. With some more traditional tapas options, La Cuchara is the only place in the area serving the highly coveted jamon iberico which is difficult to find in the U.S. Additionally, the selection of Spanish wines and ciders rivals that of even local restaurants in Madrid.  Although La Cuchara boasts an incredible range of both meat and vegetable dishes, the complimentary fresh-baked bread and butter may arguably be the star of your happy hour dinner (seriously, it’s that good). The open-bar layout ensures that visitors have sufficient space to enjoy their company even on the most crowded of nights, and with two chances to catch their daily happy hour (5 PM – 7 PM and 9 PM – close), it is easy to find time to visit. Although most of the evening for La Cuchara is happy hour, this does not mean it’s akin to your average sports bar. The interior features repurposes old wood from the industrial Woodbery neighborhood, and the modern design accentuates the classy, hip vibe of the restaurant. This makes La Cuchara’s happy hour the perfect place for a cute date night or a fun dinner with family. Beyond the menu and ambiance, parking is not an issue for visitors with the restaurant’s a private lot and nearby light rail stop. Combining this availability with their reputation as one of Baltimore’s best restaurants, it is clear that La Cuchara’s happy hour is one of the best around. My personal favorite dishes I’ve had at their happy hour include jamon corquetta, tortilla espanola, lamb meatballs (pictured below), steak tartare, and their nectarines with stirred chevre, walnuts and raspberries.
