Tasting the New Spring Menu at Apropoe’s

When Chef Kiran invites you for a tasting of any kind, you go.  It’s no secret that we’re huge fans of his food – we blogged about his epic win against Bobby Flay here and raved about his cauliflower ravioli here – so when he asked us to come sample dishes from his new spring menu at Apropoe’s, we VERY happily agreed.  Shoutout to Rachel aka Like the Tea Eats for joining us!  Good food and good company?  We honestly couldn’t ask for more.  The meal started off with a small starter to share:  crab deviled eggs.  This plate is available on their Bar Bites menu and is priced at $10.  The presentation was very cool, and we really enjoyed the mustard-heavy flavor.

Next came the tomato and burrata salad ($14), and it was topped with white balsamic and truffles.  This was to-DIE-for good!  The cheese was rich and creamy, and adding truffles to the mix really elevated the plate’s flavor profile.  We would for SURE get this again.  It’s available on their lunch menu so definitely indulge – it’s worth every cent!

Poll:  what’s better, fresh mozzarella + tomato or burrata + tomato?

Course #3 was a new salad option from their dinner menu:  watermelon and shrimp salad ($14) with chopped pistachios.  The dish was almost too pretty to eat!  Enjoy the balsamic reduction with the spring salad pictured below.

Then came their chesapeake bay scallops ($20) – available during lunch service.  This, along with the tomato & burrata salad pictured above, were two of our favorites!  The scallop was seared to perfection and drizzled with a citrus herb vinaigrette. Chef Kiran then garnished it with pickled vidalia onions and served it with creamed corn grits.  He totally hit it out of the park with this one!  We could’ve easily eaten a BOWL of the grits alone.

Course #5 was their roasted atlantic salmon, served with veggies in a cauliflower puree.

And last but not least, his oatmeal & eggplant croquettes ($21).  When Chef Kiran told us he was bringing out a VEGAN dish, we were skeptical, but this plate was the bomb.com, like we’d totally get it again.  It was served with a delish herb polenta with marinara sauce, and the texture play was out of this world.  The croquette had a crispy exterior which contrasted beautifully with the creaminess of the polenta – a must-try for both vegans and meat lovers!  Available during their dinner service.

We finished our epic meal off with a fabulous dessert created by pastry chef Ashley Burke.  Nomsters, meet Lady Baltimore ($8):  white chocolate mousse on almond financier with orange curd filling and fig jelly.  Hands down, one of the best desserts we’ve had in a while!  Each bite was heavenly, and we finished the entire plate even though we were stuffed.  Available during dinner service at Apropoe’s!
