It’s been a while since I last covered Baltimore so I thought I’d mix things up and feature Charm City today. One of my favorite people of all time, Louie aka @bmorefood, invited me to a tasting at The Tilted Row, and I had a blast because who doesn’t want to devour bomb food with their bestie?
Located in Bolton Hill on 305 Mcmechen, they specialize in classic American fare. I got to taste a variety of plates that evening, but the following dishes were standouts: their charred octopus, their ravioli, their pappardelle pasta, and their fried chicken. The octopus was a little salty, but it was as tender as can be. It came with smashed potato, green olives, and a drizzle of hot harissa oil. I highly recommend getting this as a starter when you go!
I tried two pasta dishes that night, and both were on point. The ravioli was cooked to al dente perfection, and it was filled with a beautiful ricotta blend. These pillowy morsels of deliciousness were served with peas in a light shallot butter sauce topped with parmesan and manchego. The pappardelle was everything I needed it to be. It was hearty and filling, perfect for a cold winter day. The noodles had a really great texture to them, and I enjoyed the braised lamb ragu immensely.
If you’re looking to dine on a budget, definitely consider getting their blue plate special. For $20, you get a massive entree (varies on the day) and chef’s dessert. This was Monday’s special: four giant pieces of fried chicken with a side of cole slaw and a flaky biscuit that came with a magical butter of sorts. I don’t remember what it was, but I remember it being damn good so go and indulge, friends. For more info on their daily specials, click here.
Unfortunately, I missed dessert because I had to leave early, but I hear their bread pudding could stop wars. I guess that just means I need to go back ASAP and try it myself! I’m totally ok with that though. Alright friends, I hope you liked reading about The Tilted Row today. Let me know what looked yummiest to you, and stay tuned for more. In the meantime, browse my Baltimore tab, and follow on instagram for delish noms that will feed your feed on the daily.
