U Dessert Story: Bomb Asian-Influenced Desserts

The Amazing Desserts from U Dessert Story

U Dessert Story opened their doors in the Castro back in May and we’ve been blown away by their amazing creations ever since. The dessert spot is actually a second concept from the people behind Kitchen Story, a popular Asian inspired “California cuisine-ery” right next door. They take a similar type of approach to their menu at U :Dessert Story and combine Asian influences with all kinds of desserts in the most delicious ways possible. We got to try a bunch of their menu items and these definitely get our seal of approval, so kick back, relax, and read on to see why this will become your new go-to dessert spot!

Thai Tea Crepe Cake

Crepe cakes have been all the rage recently – understandably so – and U Dessert Story took the concept and made their version of it, which was Thai tea flavored. It was drizzled in a Thai tea sauce and served with strawberries and whipped cream. It was light, yet rich in flavor, and was such a unique take on the evermore common dessert.

Mango Sticky Rice Bingsoo

If you have never had bingsoo before, you have probably still had something similar. It’s basically the Korean version of shave ice and it’s shaved super finely and is like straight up powder. U Dessert Story loaded this baby up with fresh mangoes, house made mango puree, condensed milk, sticky rice, and organic coconut crumbles that all come together so perfectly you’ll be wondering why you’ve never had this in your life before.

Chocolate Organic Matcha Lava Cake

If you don’t try anything else, this is the dessert you NEED to have. The chocolate organic matcha lava cake was probably the most unique dessert we tried, and it was as incredible as it looks. If you’ve never had a chocolate lava cake before, stop what you’re doing and go get one. It’s basically a cake with hot, melted chocolate on the inside that oozes out as soon as you put your fork into it. Basically, it’s heaven. Now, U Dessert Story took that idea and added matcha filling, and holy cow, it’s SO good! It’s plated with green tea ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream.

Volcano Bingsoo

Here’s another take on bingsoo that was as exciting to look at as it was to eat. The Volcano Bingsoo consists of cocoa powder, brownie, crispy chocolate rice cake, whipped cream, and they craft it all around a hole filled with dry ice to create the awesome volcano effect. It’s like a science experiment fused with a super bomb shave ice! Pro tip: it’s pretty big, so definitely share with a friend (or two)!

Overall, we’re ecstatic to have discovered U Dessert Story, and we truly believe you’ll all be just as impressed! The actual shop is fairly small with a couple tables and some bar seating facing the front window, so be sure to plan ahead! Till next time, Nomsters!
