Yank Sing: Tasty Dim Sum in SF

Nomsters! Yank Sing has been a mainstay for dim sum in San Francisco since the 1950’s, and for good reason. They serve super flavorful Chinese food that goes beyond dim sum – although that’s definitely their “bread and butter” – and you can count on the ingredients and quality to be top notch on the regular. While the COVID-19 related dine-in restrictions are in place, Yank Sing is offering a takeout menu with some of their most popular dishes, and everything – even the dumplings – traveled well all the way across the city. Are you hungry yet? Let’s take a look at some of the deliciousness you need in your life!

Kurobuta Pork Dumplings

Think of these dumplings kind of like Shanghai Soup Dumplings to-go. They’re filled with kurobuta pork and Napa cabbage, and instead of putting the light, soupy broth on the inside, they come with it separately so you can place them in it once you’re ready to eat.

Singapore Rice Noodles

These noodles are light, springy, and cut relatively short so they’re easy to eat. They come with Chinese sausage, sliced bell peppers, egg, and shrimp. It’s meant as a serving for one, but it’s definitely shareable if you’re ordering a few other dishes as well!

Assorted Dim Sum

This is where Yank Sing’s game is really on point – their dumplings are SO good! The wrappings are just the right thickness to hold everything in place, but thin enough that you can truly enjoy all the deliciousness on the inside. The yellow ones are their Savory Vegetarian Dumplings, the middle row is their Shrimp Dumplings, and in the back are the Steamed BBQ Pork Buns. Everything was super fresh and still tasted great and kept its shape and texture after the car ride home.

Egg Noodle Soup w/ Shrimp Wontons

Like the Kurobuta Dumplings, the broth is packaged separately if you’re ordering to-go, and this keeps everything fresh. The shrimp wontons had great flavor, however the broth was a little bland for our taste. If you’re looking to get your shrimp fix, we’d definitely recommend the shrimp dumplings over this dish.

Eggplant with Hunan Sauce

Chinese-style eggplant is one of our favorite veggies, and Yank Sing’s doesn’t disappoint! The flavor is great, it’s cooked to perfection where it’s nice and squishy, and the only thing that could possibly make it better is adding something like green peppers or chilis to bring some texture.

That pretty much wraps it up. One last thing to mention is that Yank Sing’s patio seating area at their Stevenson St. location is now open for dining in! They have a more complete menu if you eat there, but their takeout menu is still awesome if you’re still not comfortable eating out. Be sure to give them a try!
