Located at 1605 Connecticut Avenue NW, this adorable cafe is an absolute must. Zeleno’s currently open Tuesday-Saturday from 8AM-7PM and Sunday & Monday from 8AM-6PM for dine-in and carryout. They offer everything from power coffees to acai bowls so if you’re looking to eat clean (or even if you’re not), you need to stop by.
We hate to be those kind of bloggers, but this cafe is super instagrammable. There’s an adorable swing at the front that’s perfect for the ‘gram, but the food itself begs to be photographed. Everything tastes as good as it looks though! We had the pleasure of trying a handful of their menu items, and we left super impressed.
We got at least one thing from each category: a smoothie, acai bowl, two toasts, and a sandwich. There were a lot of options available, but to start, we got their Blue Lagun smoothie.
Made with banana, pineapple, coconut milk, and blue sperulina, their 16 oz is priced at $8.80 and their 20 oz at $10.80. Really, really delicious. We weren’t sure if we’d enjoy it because we’ve had some not-so-great experiences with sperulina in the past, but this was delicious. 10/10 recommend.
Next up, their Popeye Bowl. We got their rainbow size (24 ox for $11.80) because go big or go home, and this came with banana, avocado, spinach, green spirulina, and coconut water. Topped with a copious amount of homemade granola, banana pomegranate, kiwi, almonds, chia seeds and shredded coconut, you get a ton of bang for your buck with this menu item.
They’re generous with toppings, and said flavors blend together beautifully so if you’re craving something healthy and refreshing, definitely consider treating yourself! PS. they offer a smaller size so that’s always an option if you just want a snack.
Want something a bit “heavier?” Opt for their toasts or sandwiches. We got 3 different items to share, and all of them were winners. For some reason, we can’t seem to find their avocado toast on their menu, but it was one of the best avo toasts we’ve ever had the pleasure of devouring. Avo, beet spread, and sesame seeds on freshly baked bread? What’s not to love.
Up next, their peach ricotta toast: ricotta and peaches served over whole grain bread, topped with crushed pistachios and a drizzle of Bulgarian raw honey. Only $5.88 and perfect for those of you looking for the ultimate mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Light, summery and beautiful.
Now for our favorite nom of the day: their SYMI sandwich ($10.88). Who knew we could love a vegetarian option so much? Stuffed with hummus, olive tapenade, tomato, Bulgarian feta, mixed greens and served between fresh focaccia. Chef’s kiss!
Sounds simple, but all the ingredients came together so well. We rarely find ourselves craving vegetarian dishes, but we’d definitely make the drive back to enjoy this again. And before we forget, pro tip: they have a parking lot in the back so don’t stress if you can’t find a spot up front.
