6 Must Try Dishes at Le Diplomate

Whether you like French food or not, Le Diplomate is an absolute must try.  Talk to any DC resident, and we’re pretty damn confident they’ll list this Parisian gem as one of their top 5, or at least 10 faves in the city.  This goes without saying, but everything on their menu is solid.  You can’t go wrong with anything you get, but here are some of our personal favorites!

1.  Onion Soup Gratinee

This soup is a must; no ifs, ands or buts.

Think ooey, gooey cheesiness that will have you grinning from ear to ear.  The broth’s obviously savory, but it has a touch of sweetness that’s delightful.

It’s just the right amount of salty – raise your hand if you’ve been traumatized by uber-salty French Onion soup in the past – and they don’t skimp on the onions, which is crucial.  Give us all the caramelized goodness!

2.  Gougeres

Bread so good, you’ll cry tears of joy.

These light, fluffy balls of nomtastic goodness will hit the spot each and every time.

There’s just something so special about the texture – consider getting two baskets if there are more than 3 people at your table because you WILL fight over the last bites.  Consider yourself warned!

3.  Burger Américain

Easily one of the best burgers in the DC area!

The patties are cooked to juicy perfection, and the toppings come together like a symphony of deliciousness.

You may feel basic getting a burger at a sophisticated French joint, but don’t – this baby’s next level.  Don’t believe us?  Go ASAP and enjoy the magic that’s about to ensue.

Decadence in pastry form.

This appetizer is SO tasty, we dream about it on the regular. It’s very rich so we recommend splitting it with a friend, but if you’re ok with uber savory, this could work as an entree as well.

The buttery, crispy flakiness contrasts beautifully with the creaminess of the mushrooms, and they go HAM on the shredded cheese which is awesome.  This tart’s nothing short of life-changing, and no, we’re not exaggerating.  Cue the carb coma!

5.  Ricotta Ravioli

We weren’t expecting to enjoy these as much as we did, but they’re amazing and you should definitely give ’em a try.

Stuffed with ricotta and topped with fresh basil and a mountain of grated cheese, these pasta pillows will melt in your mouth.  The sauce-to-pasta ratio is perfection, and this makes for a surprisingly light appetizer.

Highly, HIGHLY recommend.

6.  Profiteroles

Mmmm, a puff pastry that’s stuffed with banana then layered with vanilla ice cream and melted bittersweet chocolate?  Yes please.

This dessert’s outstanding, and the presentation’s on point so remember to have your phones ready – they drizzle said chocolate for you at your table so have your video rollin’!  Prefer something a bit richer?  Their Pot De Crème’s fantastic as well!
