For those of you looking for the best hot chicken in Baltimore, your search is now over. Chef Kevin Curley, the sandwich god behind RegionAle, recently opened Ginger’s Hot Chicken, and the food is everything we’ve ever wanted and more.
“I’ve seen a lot of hot chicken concepts thrive during COVID. I was in my car traveling between locations pondering how I could make use of my extra kitchen space, when it struck me. My brother and I had the severe misfortune of growing up with red hair, and I thought what better way to take back some semblance of ginger pride through hot chicken and lighthearted humor.”
Their flavors range from gingerly (mild) to agent orange, and they offer various rubs as well. We had the pleasure of trying their salt & vinegar popcorn chicken – nostalgically named Ms. Frizzle – and it was like a flavor explosion in our mouths.
Even though it’s delicious all on its own, don’t sleep on their house-made sauces. You can’t go wrong with highlander (their garlic aioli), and they have a mean ranch as well.
With a featured sandwich called “Red Headed Step-Child,” how could you possibly resist? “Ginger’s started as a way for us to utilize the extra kitchen space in Canton during COVID…however, given its success so far, it does have potential to be a stand-alone concept one day.”
This epic handheld’s made with chicken breast (flavor of your choice), pickle slaw, sliced pickles, highlander sauce and is served on a firm but fluffy potato bun. Prefer to enjoy a platter instead? We recommend the Little Red Combo! This includes a small popcorn chicken, 1 breast and 3 tenders.
You can’t have fried chicken without sides though! Their butter biscuits are absolutely delicious, but their Freckled Fries are a must as well. These ‘toes come fully loaded with crispy pop chicken, sliced pickles, and a combination of rusty (ginger ketchup) and highlander sauce. Expect to be addicted at first bite.
