El Sol: Amazing Mexican Food in Logan Circle, DC

Man, I can’t even begin to tell you guys how much I love this gem of a spot.  Located in Logan Circle, El Sol’s been around since 2014 and have since expanded to Vienna, VA.

The owners, Alfredo Solis and his sister Jessica, have a second restaurant in DC called Mezcalero, and I was such a fan, I featured them on an episode of $5 Lunch WAY back in the day.  They’ve been industry for years and worked up from dishwasher to executive chef which is totally badass.

If you haven’t had a chance to dine at El Sol yet, RUN because the food’s high key insane.  They have a pretty big menu, with everything from enchiladas to fajitas, but my go-tos are their queso fundido (OMFG) and tacos.

Honestly, I should branch out and try other dishes, but I can’t resist ordering the same stuffs because it’s so freaking good.  Note:  their website pricing’s not accurate, but it’s still pretty damn affordable treat yourself to all the things when you go.

So, you have the option of getting mushrooms or chorizo with your queso fundido – you can’t go wrong with either, but I’m big into shrooms so that’s my usual.  It comes SIZZLING with 4 freshly made tortillas, and it’s something I dream about on the regular, like my jaw dropped when I first got their queso.  You won’t be disappointed so make sure to get at LEAST one order for your table.

I make an effort to try different tacos, but I have a soft spot for chef Solis’ tinga – chicken in a mild chipotle marinade served with lettuce and fresh cheese.  I also really like his carnitas, especially when doused in house made hot sauce and salsa – hits the spot every time!  Other proteins include shrimp, cactus, lengua (tongue), grilled octopus and more.

Whether you’re looking to treat yourself to a delish dinner out or want to grab a quick meal to go, I highly recommend stopping by El Sol.  Anddd you’re welcome in advance.
