Planta: The New Must Try Vegan Restaurant in Bethesda

Soooo I’m definitely not vegan, but I really enjoyed checking out the new Planta in Bethesda, Maryland.  I love that more plant-based eateries are popping up in the area.  The food’s on the pricier side, but I think it’s worth the splurge, especially if you’re a vegan looking to treat yourself to a delish meal out.

I went for brunch last weekend and got an array of dishes to share with my mom.  Everything was solid, and I’m excited to tell you guys more about my meal.  So, here’s what we got:

Unagi Eggplant Nigiri with truffle miso:  this gets a 10/10 in my book!  I loved the flavors, and I’m a sucker for eggplant so it was a win for sure.

Torched and Pressed:  they made this “sushi roll” by glazing avo with a delicious miso truffle sauce then torching it, hence the name.  This came with 6 or so pieces, and I thought it was on point.  It’s truffle forward – and y’all know how I feel about truffle – so definitely make sure to indulge if you love it as much as I do.

Spaghettini Alla Carbonara:  to be honest, I was a little skeptical, but this pasta dish was well done.  Made with smoked tempeh and mushroom bacon, cracked pepper and a cream almond parmesan, the noodz were cooked to al dente perfection, and the portion was HUGE so plan to share.

Bao Slider: this was DELIGHTFUL!  Made with chick’n fried mushroom, hoisin and pickled cucumber, it was love at first bite. The bun’s soft as can be, and the flavors all came together beautifully.  The texture game was oh so strong as well!  Think perfectly fried oyster shrooms with crunchy cucumbers to add some acidity.  So good.

Steamed Dumplings:  stuffed with spinach and shiitake, these were served in a delectable truffle soy and hot chili oil mixture, and they were possibly the highlight of the entire meal?  Definitely make sure y’all get an order or two for the table because you’ll be wowed.

Suffice it to say, I’m excited to go back and try more of their menu!  They DO offer some dope deals though so make sure you make a note for yourself:

  • Maki Mondays (after 5PM):  enjoy $8 maki and $27 unlimited maki rolls
  • Pour Decision Wednesdays:  get 1/2 priced bottles of wine
  • Weekend Brunch: $25 endless mimosas & sake sangria
