7 Fries in SF to Die For

There aren’t many things that get us more excited than an amazing tray of fries, but on the flip side, it’s also SO disappointing when you get a soggy or dry mess.

To take the guesswork out of which fries are worth ordering, and to hopefully introduce you to some that you’ve never tried, we put together this list of the best fries in SF!

We’ll be updating this list as we discover more spots, so be sure to bookmark this post to stay up-to-date with all the tastiness to come.

Let’s get into it!

1. Rocketbird‘s Loaded Sidewinders

When Rocketbird popped onto our radar, we were instantly intrigued by those curvy fries. Typically fries that thick are soggy and flimsy, so were these really up to the hype? All that and then some.

Rocketbird’s Loaded Sidewinders are twisty fries with tangy Rocketbird malty seasoning topped with Rocketbird Queso, crumbled bacon, and jalapeño peppers. And somehow, under all that, the fries manage to stay crispy!

If you’re less of a loaded fries person, they also serve just the Sidewinder Fries without any toppings, as well as their Rocket Fries and Classic Fries.

2. The Bird‘s Fully Loaded Fries

The Bird makes some amazing fried chicken sandwiches that are must-tries on their own, but they also do fully loaded CURLY fries, which we’ve never seen before in SF.

They’re topped with applewood-smoked bacon, cream, green onions, and melted cheddar cheese.

Our only possible knock on these is that we wish the serving size was bigger! They’re definitely must-try fries in SF, though.

3. Wesburger n’ More‘s Deluxe Tots

Now, we realize that these aren’t technically fries, but we felt compelled to mention them because tots are pretty close, and these are freakin’ incredible.

The tots are nice and crispy on the outside with a healthy heaping of queso, caramelized onions, bulgogi bacon, and their special sauce.

Did we mention bulgogi bacon?

4. Roam Artisan Burgers‘ The Fry-fecta

Roam Artisan Burgers has several locations across the Bay Area and have been around for years.

They make super unique burgers that are all extremely customizable, but they also serve 3 types of fries (zucchini onion haystack, sweet potato fries, and russet fries) along with your choice of seasonings (chipotle maple, chipotle parmesan, and usually a seasonal flavor).

You can get an order of each type of fries individually for $3.99, or you can get The Fry-fecta for $8.99, which includes all three.

We think this is a pretty easy decision.

5. In-n-Out‘s Animal Style Fries

Many west coasters will agree that In-n-Out’s Animal Style Fries are a must-try!

The fries themselves are pretty darn good, but we wouldn’t say they’re necessarily the best. But when you top them with melted cheese, grilled onions, and their special sauce (basically thousand island dressing) they’re SO good!

6. Shake Shack‘s Cheese Fries

Shake Shack obviously isn’t specific to the Bay Area, but we actually wanted to mention them in our list of must try fries in SF for that reason – they’re a relatively new addition, and they bring some awesome fries!

We’re not sure what magic they use to prepare their cheese, but it’s fantastic, and the wavy fries are always just the right amount of crispy.

7. Schroeder’s Tots

Yes, these, too, are not technically fries, but you’ll be glad we introduced them to you!

You may think all tots are the same, but there’s definitely an art to getting them crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Too often, we’ve had soggy tots, and that’s just the worst.

While these look simple, the quality is some of the best we’ve had in the city, and they’re definitely a satisfying side to your bratwurst!
